What the pass covers
Italy has more private and regional operators than most countries, and the ones that carry the most tourists are frequently the ones a pass does not touch. Read this before you build an itinerary around it.

The one that catches everyone
Pompeii. Travellers arrive in Naples on a pass-valid Frecciarossa, walk downstairs to the Circumvesuviana, and discover it is a different company. The ticket is only €2.80 — the problem is not the money, it is finding the platform. It is inside Napoli Centrale, signed for Napoli Garibaldi, one level down.
